The Senior Center Assistant assists in managing the daily operations of City of Phoenix senior centers. The primary role of the Senior Center Assistant is to develop and implement a variety of social and recreational programs and activities for seniors and/or disabled adults. Additional duties include, but are not limited to, assisting with meals and supplemental food programs; training and supervising center volunteers; handling cash and daily deposits; preparing reports; providing positive customer service with internal and external customers, and ensuring that all city, county, state, and federal regulations are adhered to. Responsibilities require considerable contact with members of senior, disabled, minority, and poverty groups.

SALARY
$15.31 (minimum) - $21.23 (maximum) hourly / $31,845 - $44,158 annually.
Candidates may be hired above the minimum depending upon qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of experience working with the public in the direct provision of social services, supplemented by some college coursework in social work, sociology, or a related field.
Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.
Moving objects weighing up to 20 pounds may be required.

This position must meet fingerprint clearance card background check requirements appropriate to employees of the Human Services Department.
An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered.
Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license, and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS – The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
Two years of professional experience working with older adults and/or disabled individuals in the direct provision of social services.
Experience in effectively communicating with the public in person and in writing.
Experience supervising volunteers.
Strong computer skills including proficiency using Microsoft Office functions in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Cash handling skills.
Experience providing quality customer service to internal and external customers.
Ability to communicate in Chinese or Spanish is desirable.
Food handling experience and/or a current Maricopa County Food Service Worker card is desirable.
Employees in this class who are skilled in a second language may be called upon to utilize that skill in the routine performance of their duties.
